We are currently enrolling for the 2019-2020 school year!
Midland Cooperative Preschool is a Bates-affiliated, play-based preschool for children ages 1-3. Parents and children attend each class together, giving you time to play and bond with your child. There is also a fantastic parent education component built right into the 2-hour schedule. We are the only preschool in the area using this model and have been doing so for 20 years! Our bright and cheerful preschool is located in the Midland area, and because of our proximity to Highway 512 we have served families from Puyallup, Graham, Tacoma, Bonney Lake, and Parkland. Visitors are welcome to observe a class at any time during the school year!
The schedule is designed for children to learn a routine and how to interact with peers in a developmentally-appropriate way.
9:30-10:00 a.m. Wash hands, and enjoy Parent/Child Play Time! Tumble room is open for gross motor play. Art project in the main room.
10:00-11:00 a.m. Sensory table opens. It is always exciting to see what is in the table. The kids love the table whether there are coffee beans, dried pasta, or water to play with.
Children participate in the play theme of the month. Water, smells, and winter are some examples of monthly themes. They are free to roam the room and explore the environment that has been set up.
What are parents doing when all this is happening?
Parents have a discussion based on a theme introduced by our Bates Instructor in the adjoining room. The Bates Instructor will come to class once per month to lead the discussion and parents will take turns leading the remaining classes. It’s great to have people to bounce things off of and get feedback from others who are battling the same parenting struggles like tantrums, picky eating, time outs, and potty training. Children are welcome to check-in/hang out with their parent(s) as much as they want, which really helps with separation anxiety.
11:00-11:15 a.m. Snack time is a fun way for picky toddlers to try new foods, and practice age-appropriate table manners.
11:15-11:30 a.m. Parents and children participate in music time, led by our children’s teacher.
